Marist University and Hudson Valley Credit Union (HVCU) held a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony for Marist Red Fox Financial, a student-powered credit union located on campus. This innovative partnership brings together experiential learning and real-world financial services, offering Marist students a unique opportunity to lead and learn.

The event welcomed University leaders, HVCU executives, student representatives, and members of the Marist community, all gathered to commemorate the launch of a credit union powered by students, for students. Staffed by student “relationship advisors,” the branch provides hands-on experience in financial management, marketing, human resources, and operations.

Marist Red Fox Financial officially opened its doors in February and has been actively serving the Marist community ever since. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni have already begun taking advantage of the credit union’s offerings, which include savings and checking accounts, loan services, and digital banking solutions—all delivered through a cashless, student-run model.

“We are very excited to officially open this student-powered branch of HVCU on our campus,” said Dr. William Lamb, Dean of Marist’s School of Management. “Our students, faculty, and staff have worked incredibly hard to support this launch and make this new hands-on learning experience possible. I’d especially like to thank our partners at HVCU for the enormous investment in time, thought, and resources they have made in this project. They’ve shown so much dedication to creating a positive learning experience for Marist students.”

Located on the first floor of the Dyson Center, the credit union operates under a cashless model and is supported by HVCU professionals who mentor students through real-world financial projects. Many of the student advisors are members of the Red Fox Financial Club and employees of HVCU, bridging academic learning with professional development.

“We’re proud to partner with Marist University on this groundbreaking initiative that empowers students to take charge of their financial futures,” said Rick Lionhood, Executive Vice President and Chief Banking Officer at Hudson Valley Credit Union. “Marist Red Fox Financial is more than a branch – it’s a living classroom where students gain real-world experience while serving their campus community. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to education, innovation, and financial wellness.”

Marist Red Fox Financial offers a full suite of services including savings, checking, and money market accounts, as well as loan and credit options and digital banking solutions.
