Security Alert: Phishing Texts and Spoofed Calls Targeting Members

We are alerting members to a recent increase in phishing text messages and spoofed phone calls targeting both personal and business accounts.

In these scams, fraudsters impersonate HVCU, often claiming to be from our Fraud Department, in an attempt to create urgency and pressure you into sharing sensitive information—such as your Social Security Number, account numbers, debit or credit card details, PINs, or one‑time passcodes.

What You Need to Know

Scammers can make calls or texts appear to come from a legitimate HVCU phone number. Even if the message looks or sounds official, it may not be.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Never share security codes or credentials. HVCU will never ask for your one‑time passcode, PIN, or full card number by phone, text, or email.
  • Be cautious of unexpected messages. If you receive a call or text that feels urgent, threatening, or unusual, do not respond.
  • Do not click suspicious links. Texts asking you to “verify a transaction” or “secure your account” are common scams. Instead, log in directly to Internet Banking or Mobile Banking—never log in through a link.
  • Verify independently. If you’re unsure whether a message is legitimate, hang up and contact us using the official phone number on the back of your card or our main number at 845-463-3011.

Remember: HVCU actively monitors accounts for suspicious activity, but your awareness is one of the strongest defenses against fraud. Staying alert and knowing what to watch for can help protect your finances.

If you believe you’ve been contacted by a scammer or may have shared information, please contact us immediately.

Your security is our top priority—and by staying vigilant, you can help keep your accounts safe.
